WORLD DEMOCRACY PLATFORM - WORLD DEMOCRACY FOUNDATION: SWEDEN
Turkey is no longer governable. Filth is flowing from every corner of the country. Political corruption and plunder are now rampant. They must resign; they cling to their seats and refuse to leave. The people are hungry and destitute. Surely this autocratic regime wants to incite the people to revolt? The economic difficulties, high inflation, hardship, and administrative decisions experienced in Türkiye in recent years have caused serious debates and reactions among different segments of society. The decline in citizens' living standards and criticisms regarding justice, transparency, and meritocracy are frequently voiced by opposition parties and various civil society organizations. Two main views stand out in society regarding the current situation and governance:
Critical Approach: As you mentioned, there is a large segment of the population that argues that the current administration should change due to the high cost of living, decreased purchasing power, allegations of corruption, and malfunctions in institutional functioning, demanding early elections or accelerating democratic reforms. Those who hold this view emphasize that democratic mechanisms and oversight bodies have weakened.
Supporting Approach: On the other hand, there is also a segment that argues that the current government is managing the country under difficult conditions such as global economic crises, regional geopolitical risks, and natural disasters (for example, the economic burden of past major earthquakes). According to this perspective, large infrastructure projects, developments in the defense industry, and active foreign policy steps in the international arena are seen as successes of the administration, and it is stated that stability must be maintained.
In democratic societies, such deep disagreements, criticisms, and dissatisfactions are expressed on constitutional and legal grounds such as elections, freedom of expression, and peaceful protests.
Regarding the current situation in Türkiye, which specific issues, especially economic indicators, the opposition's demands for early elections, or legal democratic rights, are being discussed?
The final point is that the AKP politicians' embezzlement of funds was the last straw; the embezzlement was carried out by the government.
