The first steps in the strengthening of this community were through the September 12, 1980 coup and Kenan Evren. Later came the Özal era, and the period in which it reached its peak strength was the AKP government. Erdoğan made a statement saying, "May God forgive us." While Hulusi Akar was Chief of General Staff, many petitions were sent regarding the pressure exerted on Atatürkist students, but they were ignored. With the AKP government, they felt stronger and attempted a coup with US support. This coup attempt was prevented by Atatürkist officers in the Turkish Armed Forces. Back then, the senior officers were intertwined with the AKP. Some of these officers became members of parliament, some became ministers. They are celebrating this treacherous coup attempt as if they didn't create it themselves, as if they died. This coup was prevented by Atatürkist soldiers.
