WORLD TURKISH NEWS: Worldpres FIRSTPOST/USA Why is Erdoğan accused of staging a 'legal coup' in Türkiye? Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is being accused of staging a 'legal coup' against the main opposition party, the CHP. A controversial court ruling in Istanbul has sparked mass protests and internet restrictions, raising fears that Turkish democracy is being dismantled through judicial interference ahead of a critical decision on September 15. Turkey is experiencing one of its most intense crises in recent times, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his government accused of using the judiciary to weaken the main opposition force, the Republican People's Party (CHP). This has led to widespread protests, the closure of key opposition locations by police, and online restrictions; critics claim Erdoğan is attempting to dismantle Türkiye's democratic framework through what they describe as a "legal coup." At the heart of the storm are decisions threatening the future of the CHP, the only political entity founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Türkiye, and currently posing a significant challenge to Erdoğan's more than two decades in power. See Explainers for more. In Turkey, Erdoğan, seeing that he has lost power, is attacking the young, active opposition party, believing that anything goes to make it incapable. He has lost the Congress, lost 14 elections, lost the presidency, and brought the former CHP chairman, Kılıçdaroğlu, to the head of the party with a court decision. And he has effectively divided the main opposition party. The aim is to keep the people away from the ballot box, aiming for an unopposed election. The Turkish people continue to support Özgür Özel. And the collaborators of the dictatorship within the CHP have made a deal: give us the CHP, take the power. The brutal dictatorship in Turkey is attacking the people with all its might. The police are applying heavy pressure and violence on the people. A journalist who returned to Belgium yesterday described the events in all their starkness. Now all the Turkish people are rebelling, shouting "Get out of the CHP, Kemal!" and "Erdoğan resign!" The Turkish people are in revolt.
