According to evidence found by Human Rights Watch (HRW), Israel has illegally dropped white phosphorus on homes in Lebanon.
The organization announced that it has verified the authenticity and geographical location of seven images showing the aerial explosion of white phosphorus ordnance dropped on a residential area in the town of Yohmor in southern Lebanon.
It also released images of civil defense teams responding to fires in at least two homes and a vehicle in that area on March 3.
The global human rights group determined that the shape of the smoke cloud created by the aerial explosions in the images is consistent with the "fist" shape resulting from the firing and detonation of a shell containing white phosphorus.
Human Rights Watch's Lebanon researcher, Ramzi Kaiss, said, “The illegal use of white phosphorus by the Israeli military in residential areas is extremely concerning and will have dire consequences for civilians. The corrosive effects of white phosphorus can cause serious injuries that may lead to death or lifelong suffering.”
