Iran has issued a chilling warning, saying its next move will be "remembered for centuries." In a statement on Tuesday evening, Iran warned, "Tonight, there will be a great surprise that the world will remember for centuries."
This alarming statement coincided with Israeli warplanes launching a heavy bombardment of the Iranian capital around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, following President Donald Trump's demand for "unconditional surrender." Iranian officials have remained silent on the bombardment; a tactic increasingly adopted by Israel since the increase in the frequency and intensity of its attacks last Friday.
According to Mirror US, one of the airstrikes on Wednesday morning appears to have targeted the Hakimiyeh neighborhood of Tehran, where the Revolutionary Guard academy is located. Earlier, Israel had warned of potential attacks targeting areas south of Mehrabad International Airport, including residential areas, military bases, pharmaceutical companies, and industrial facilities. They also announced the killing of Iranian General Ali Shadmani, whom they described as Tehran's highest-ranking surviving military official. Amid escalating tensions with the deployment of US warplanes to the region, President Trump made a series of statements regarding the conflict; he threateningly warned Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and stated that the US knew his whereabouts but had no intention of eliminating him "at least for now."
Trump's statements further fueled confusion regarding America's involvement in the situation, coinciding with the evacuation of Tehran's population during Israel's intense airstrikes aimed at weakening Iran's military capabilities and halting its nuclear ambitions.
Israel maintains that its comprehensive offensive is vital to preventing Iran from advancing on its path to developing nuclear weapons. At least 224 people have died in Iran as a result of the attacks.
In response, Iran has launched approximately 400 missiles and hundreds of drones at Israel, resulting in 24 deaths so far.
