NARDUGAN AYAZ ATA IS A 15,000-YEAR-OLD TURKISH TRADITION, AND TREES ARE DECORATED DURING THIS FESTIVAL. IFJ - INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF JOURNALISTS PRE-ISLAMIC TURKISH TRADITIONS: THE EXAMPLE OF THE NARDUGAN FESTIVAL When examining the myths and epics of different societies, it is noticeable that almost every society has legends in its past with themes of supernatural beings, good, evil, night and day, the sun and the moon. The Nardugan celebrations, a pre-Islamic Turkish tradition, are one of these. Christmas, in its form and application, is very similar to the Nardugan festival, which the ancient Turks celebrated as a rebirth festival. It is seen that these celebrations are understood in different meanings in Turkish societies. Many factors, such as the preference for different religions over time after migrations, have caused these celebrations to gradually disappear. In order to prevent the disappearance of cultures, the Nardugan festival, which has been celebrated in a festive atmosphere in Gündoğan town of Bodrum district of Muğla since 2010, is repeated every year by the local people. Societies are unaware of, or even do not accept, that many beliefs and celebrations exist as part of the old belief system. However, many practices belonging to old Turkish beliefs continue to be kept alive with all their vitality in Anatolian lands. In this context, the research is a descriptive study model, and the content of the data obtained by reviewing the relevant literature is analyzed and interpreted in the conclusion section. The sub-objectives determined are: Where does the Nardugan festival first appear?, How is the Nardugan festival celebrated?, Is the Nardugan festival still celebrated today?
