IFJ - INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF JOURNALIST Turkey is no longer a state governed by the rule of law. While the AKP government is trying to legally detain Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul and Presidential Candidate, they have now launched an investigation into Mansur Yavaş, the Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, the main opposition party's second presidential candidate, and will arrest him as well. In other words, the government wants to deprive the main opposition party of its candidates. The goal is to prevent the AKP from leaving power. They are applying all kinds of pressure, in other words, to run for elections with a single candidate. The rival candidates, the highly elected candidates, are being eliminated. What I don't understand is the silence of European governments. I studied in Sweden, and if there was an act against democracy in Sweden, they would react no matter where in the world. Germany, France, England, and others always say they defend democracy, but when it comes to mutual interest, they see nothing. They act according to their own interests. At least the illegality experienced in Türkiye is the press. This is not even mentioned in the article. I don't think what is being done is normal, but we are trying to explain the situation to the world as best we can.
