The Council of Europe's observer panel described the referendum as a "road to autocracy." Three of the injured suffered stab wounds, and one is reportedly in critical condition. If anything happens to our friends at the polls, [Turkish authorities] should know that we can bring the consulate down on them.” Turkish-European relations have been on a roller coaster ride after the Turkish government attempted to rally support among expatriates in Europe. Erdoğan lashed out at Germany and the Netherlands for restricting political rallies on their soil out of fear of escalating tensions. Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel condemned the violence, writing on Twitter: “The Belgian government has absolutely zero tolerance for any spillover of the Turkish referendum. I condemn the riots at the embassy in Brussels.”
