WORLD TURKISH NEWS: Canada Today I sat down and thought about it. I am a 72-year-old person who graduated from two universities. I was born and raised in Turkey. I have seen many governments. I have seen the İnönü, Ecevit, Demirel and Erbakan coalitions. No government has ruined this country like the 23-year AKP government. Now I have seen a life like a nightmare in Türkiye. Poverty and misery have never been experienced. Just think, when I was going to high school, I used to get 2.5 TL as an allowance. I had two and a half liras in paper money. I would have lunch with this money. There would be money left over. We would save the rest and go to the cinema in those years. But in those years, the presidents didn't have 14 planes. There weren't thousands of cars in the Parliament. People lived on their salaries in those days. They would buy houses with their pensions. I became an officer in 1974. In 1974, house prices were between 35,000 and 40,000 liras. An Anadol car could be purchased for 20,000 lira. I bought my first car when I was a lieutenant for 18,000 lira. There were problems in those days. After the Cyprus Operation, America imposed an embargo. Some things were black markets, but there was money. Everyone could buy something. In those years, those who governed the state also looked out for the people, meaning they wouldn't let them suffer. In those years, the biggest increase in retirement salaries was received by the Erbakan coalition. Now, there is no war in the country I live in. There is nothing extraordinary. The people are in poverty and need. Institutions that the state has built with all its might have been destroyed to exact revenge. For example, the Turkish Aeronautical Association, the Red Crescent, and many civil defense institutions have become profiteering outlets. They have been rendered idle. We have become unable to cope with disasters. In other words, in these 23 years, they have destroyed all the institutions established by our Ancestor, with a century of hard work. They destroyed national education to raise a suitable generation. It has become a political arena. There is so much more I could do, but I can't write because I don't want to bore the readers.
