,LAPHINES LIVING IN NORHECH, SWEDEN, FINLAND AND DENMARK ARE TURKS
Perhaps the most frequently asked question about the Lapps, one of the little-known and intriguing people of the north, is whether the Lapps are Turks? The question is. Here are the answers to all these and similar questions about the Lapps in the rest of our news.
Who are the Lapps?
The Sami people, or Lapps, are an ethnic community that has lived since prehistoric times in the Arctic Circle regions of Norway and Sweden. Today, the Lapp population is approximately 60,000, and 70% of this population speaks the Sami (Saame) language, that is, Lapp, which is from the Uralic language family.
The Lapps engage in reindeer husbandry as their main source of income, and there are approximately 700,000 reindeer on their land. The woven clothes of the Lapps are appreciated both functionally and aesthetically. Lapp people, who have their own flag, national anthem and national day, attract attention with these features.
This community has a total population of between 80,000 and 100,000 people and they absolutely reject being called 'Lapis'. The word 'lapp' means 'patch' and the Sami think that they were given this name because of their colorful clothes and that this is a mockery. Sami people settled in this region approximately 4000 years ago.
It is known that the most populous community of the Vikings and the Middle Ages that followed them was the Semites. During this period, the Semites, who constantly fought with the Vikings, were exiled to the Arctic Circle by the Vikings. After a while, the Vikings, who set out to explore the world, became trade partners with the Semites.
Starting from the 17th century, a community subjected to the assimilation process by the kingdoms of Norway and Sweden were forced to abandon their animist roots and embrace Christianity and were prohibited from using their language. After the national borders of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia were determined, the Sami people had to adapt to the culture and language of the country they lived in.
In 1956, the Sami people living in Finland, Sweden and Norway started to fight for their rights by establishing the Northern Sami Council. Even though they are officially a minority in these countries today and have the right to learn their language and culture in schools, their struggle over land and natural resources still continues.
In the episode "Between the Borders with Banu Avar//Sweden's Nobel" broadcast on TRT on December 11, 2006, it was claimed that they were subjected to genocide and were forcibly sterilized in the 1900s.
Are Lapps Turks?
Prof. Sven Lagerbring is known as the founder of Sweden's modern historical science, and in his book "History of the Swedish Empire", written about 250 years ago, he stated that the peoples of Northern Europe were originally of Turkish origin, or at least that the Lapps could have been Turkish.
Additionally, documentary director Tekin Gün, who works on the mythology of the northern peoples of Europe, in his research notes titled "Turkish Ancestors of the Scandinavians", calls Shamans Angakok by the Eskimos, Soyok by the Sabir Turks, Noide by the Lapps, Tadibca by the Samoyeds and "Kam" among some other Turkish tribes. stated that his name was given.
In his book, it is stated that the Lapps call themselves Same and call the place where they live Sampi. Although the Lapps have long been considered to be of Finnish origin, it has been stated that they share the same origin with the Turks due to their cultural characteristics, both in terms of their Shaman characteristics and the items they use.
