The Unsolved Turkish Admiral

The mystery of the maps made by the famous Turkish admiral Piri Reis in the 16th century has still not been solved. Because, with the science of geography, such maps were drawn only in the 20th century, with photographs taken from the sky.

The famous map of Piri Reis was drawn in 1513. In that century, there were no planes, no satellites that took pictures. Not all parts of the world have been traveled and measured. Then how did Piri Reis make this map? If it used a number of resources, where are those resources now? There are many people all over the world who are looking for answers to these questions. But still the vast majority agree that the world map was first drawn in the 20th century.

HOW FOUND?

In 1929, a general arrangement was made in Topkapı Palace. Halil Ethem Eldem, director of the museums, found very interesting maps. It was as if they were parts of a world map. The famous Turkish admiral who made the maps was Piri Reis. But in his lifetime it was impossible to draw such maps. The director of the museums immediately informed Ankara of the situation. Atatürk studied the maps. In the following years, he went on these mysterious maps just as he would deal with the secret of the lost continent of Mu. Later, these maps were reproduced and published with his directive and direction. One of the close witnesses of the incident, Prof. Afet Inan says the following on this subject:
“I saw the maps for the first time with Atatürk in Çankaya. They were drawn with great care on gazelle skin. They had writings and colorful pictures on them. In 1935, the Historical Society printed one of the maps with an introductory brochure. When I was at the University of Genova, I studied the first maps of America. I gave a copy of Piri Reis's map to the Genova Geography Institute. The event attracted a lot of attention. It was published in newspapers of various countries in 1937. However, that day is today, the mystery of this map has not been solved…”

FIRST MAP

Piri Reis' maps are actually more than one. We focus mostly on the first map he made in 1513. On this map we see Central America, South America, the African coast and parts of the European coast. In the middle is the Atlantic Ocean. There are 32-pointed weather vane each in the north and south of the map. It measures 95 by 65 cm. There are also colorful pictures on the map. For example, pictures of elephants and ostrich were drawn in Africa. In South America, there are pictures of llamas and pumas. How did Piri Reis know that these animal species lived there?

MAP SECOND

On the second map, the northern Atlantic Ocean, the coasts of North and Central America are seen. There are also four weathervanes. Mile dimensions are given, these dimensions vary between 50 and 10 miles. Greenland is visible to the north. There's also the Terre Neuve coast and the Florida peninsula, which looks just like it is today. Honduras, the Yucatan peninsulas, the Bahamas and the Antilles archipelago, the islands of Cuba, Haiti, are drawn in place and accurately. The measurements are correct, the places are correct, the shapes are correct, everything is correct except an 11-degree compass shift. The fact that there are so many truths increases one's suspicion a little more.

American Experts Investigating

Two American cartographers named Mallery and Walters showed the first interest in Piri Reis maps. After 3 years of work, they wrote a report. Based on this report, the American Naval Surveyor named Danny Linehan stated that the details of a lake and mountain drawn especially in Canada are completely real. Georgetown University held a session on the same subject in 1956. Famous geophysicist and lecturer Prof. C. H. Hapgood and mathematician R. W. Strachan were also interested in the map. Hapgood claimed that the maps were copied from very old and undetectable maps.

Piri Reis' maps were compared with photographs taken from satellites. There was an exact fit in many points. Again, according to Hapgood, the old maps were taken from much older maps, which are also older ones. So, when were the first and full ones made? Some argue that the earliest maps were made by a giant civilization that lived between 200 and 300 thousand years ago. Others believe that aliens made the maps. There are those who claim that the spiritual body of Piri Reis ascended into space, seeing and drawing the world by approaching the subject from a mystical point of view...

REMAINS OF ATLANTIS

Robyn Collins, an Austrian researcher, states that an island was drawn on the map of Piri Reis that does not exist now. According to him, this island, located between Brazil and Africa, is the island of Daitya, left over from the lost continent of Atlantis. However, Atlantis itself is not on the map. that is to say, it was not found in the main source of Piri Reis. So it sank. Thus, the claim that Atlantis sank little by little, part by part, is confirmed. In fact, the Greek philosopher Plato's "Cr
