SEKELIA AND THE SECELLS
The Szekels[1] (Hungarian: Székelyek, Romanian: Secui, German: Szekler, Latin: Siculi) are a subgroup of Hungarians living predominantly in the Romanian region of Szekelia, less commonly in southern Hungary.[2] They speak the Hungarian dialect of Sekel.
Descendants of Atilla Sekelle (Sekel Turks)
There are definitely those who have never heard of the Turkish Community called Sekeller. Because this small community has never been among the famous Turkish communities and they have lived for thousands of years as the lost sons of the Turkish World without even knowing about them. Let's take a look at the answers to questions such as where is Sekelistan, are the Sekelles Turks?

Who are the sequels?

The Sekelles, who are originally Hun Turks, are a group of Western Huns who settled in Hungary after the Migration of Tribes. Historians are of the common opinion that the Szekels are the tribe of Chaba, the younger son of God's Whip Atilla (also known as Etila), known as the most powerful ruler of the European Huns.

So much so that Bahaeddin Ögel's work "About the Ancestors of Sekels" includes this claim, which is also expressed in Hüseyin Namık Orkun's book "Pechenegs". Although the exact etymological origin of the name Sekel has not been found, historians agree that this community is the descendants of Attila. Many historians have said that this name Sekel may be related to the Eskil (Esegel) people living in Chuvashia and Tatarstan since the 10th century.

The Place and Importance of Sequelae in History

Although many Hun Turks have assimilated and forgotten their Turkishness with the adoption of Christianity in the Hungarian Region, when we look at the history of Hungary, it is seen that this small group called the Sekeller was used as a border (border) unit in the Hungarian armies, which is a national profile that refers to their being Turks.

Moreover, this community, which was called the Sekeller, came to the Erdel (Transylvania) Region, where there are hundreds of thousands of Sekel Turks living in Romania today.

Sequelae Today

It is very interesting that the Sekeller have a unique alphabet that they have preserved until today, and the similarity of this alphabet to the Köktürk Alphabet can be shown as a separate proof that the Sekellers are Turkish. Moreover, their tales, folk songs and some traditions also bear traces of Central Asia.

Attila

Having experienced a national awakening after the fall of the communist regime in Romania, the Sekels formed a group called the Young Sekeller Forum in 1990 and started to use their unique Sekel Flag. Moreover, they published a booklet to reinforce the national consciousness among themselves and they also used the Köktürk alphabet here.

Establishing another organization called the National Council of Szekels in 2003, the Sekelles named the Carpathians in the east of Transylvania as Sekelistan and, in a sense, declared this region their national territory.

Today, although the Sekelles are only just beginning to be known by the Turkish world, they have managed to preserve their essence despite the intervening thousands of years. Today, 800,000 Sekel Turks live in Sekelistan in Romania.
